WC Garmisch Men

After the world championships in Schladming, the world cup continues in Garmisch with a downhill and a giant slalom. Due to a lot of snowfall during the training days as well as thick fog in the upper leg, it was impossible to train on the whole distance. Thus early on the racing day, a training run had to take place on the upper leg so that the race could start from the planned starting point (FIS reglementation).

The World Championships in Schladming/AUT (Alpine) and Nove Mesto na Morave/CZ (Biathlon) are over, now the Nordic contests start in Val die Fiemme/ITA. TOKO’s racing service team is always on the spot. Here you can read the résumé of the Biathlon World Championships. The hosts managed a very well organised and impressive event.

As for the facts: the strongest nation were the Norwegians with their stars Tora Berger, Emil Hegle Svendsen and Tarjey Boe. They easily lead the medal count with 8x gold, 2x silver and 1x bronze.

WC Schladming GS Men

There were two favourites for the men’s giant slalom, Ted Ligety who has already won two world championship titles, downhill and super combination, and the Austrian Marcel Hirscher. Those two have been dominating the whole winter in this discipline. The audience of 35,000 was looking forward to a giant skiing party. On the icy and difficult piste, all athletes struggled until they reached the finish. Everyone wants to enjoy the great atmosphere at the finishing line, it’s a highlight especially for the underdogs.

The distance of the giant slalom proved extremely difficult for the athletes, for the non-specialists, this hill is far too complicated. The steep and very icy piste demanded a lot from the athletes. For the less skilled, it meant not to lose too much time.

World Championships Schladming Super Combination Men

The men’s super combination was spectacular. The Austrian Romed Baumann led after the downhill in front of the world downhill champion Aksel Lund Svindal and the South Tyrolian Christof Innerhofer. The slalom specialists Ted Ligety, Ivica Kostelic and Benjamin Raich managed a great downhill race. After their performance, they were the top favourits for the super combination title.

Halftime at the Biathlon World Championships

The result after the first half of the races: The favourites dominate the scene. At the men’s races, it’s Emil Hegle Svendsen/NOR and the world cup leader Martin Fourcade who battle against each other. The Norwegian won his third gold medal yesterday with an advance of 2.4 cm. TOKO racer Martin Fourcade held three silver medals so far and had announced exciting world championship races!

The biathlon queen is from Norway as well. Tora Berger won two gold and one silver medal until today.

The ladies’ downhill took place in cloudy weather and low temperatures. Due to the great amount of skidding, the piste became hard and icy. There were a lot of favourites listed for the victory of this race.

The most important event of the World Championships in Schladming 2013 could be held in good conditions with light snowfall. The men’s downhill is very difficult with many changes and an icy lower part of the leg. The final slope is a great challenge for all athletes who only have little power in their legs left for the steep and icy slope.

World Championships Schladming

The Alpine World Championship in Schladming was opened on Monday with a grand opening party. The host had a lot of work on both pistes. After numerous snowfalls, the ladies’ and the men’s pistes had to be prepared again. The many volunteers did a great job so that all races could be held in good conditions.

The ladies’ Super-G on Tuesday had to be postponed due to fog. After more than three hours, the race finally started. The dominating Tina Maze SLO won the race 0.38 seconds before Lara Gut SUI and 0.53 seconds before Julia Mancuso USA.

World Cup Sochi

Olympic rehearsal in Sochi.

This weekend, the Olympic rehearsal took place in Sochi. Both athletes and service teams used the opportunity to test the material and the piste of the Olympic territory of 2014.

In the races, the difficult leg was conquered by the best climbers. The Norwegian lightweight Kristin Stoermer Steira won the ladies race. She won solo in the 15 km pursuit.
