Podium DH
After the world championships in Schladming, the world cup continues in Garmisch with a downhill and a giant slalom. Due to a lot of snowfall during the training days as well as thick fog in the upper leg, it was impossible to train on the whole distance. Thus early on the racing day, a training run had to take place on the upper leg so that the race could start from the planned starting point (FIS reglementation).
The weather was cloudy when the race started which was no hindrance to the athletes. During the race, the weather got better and better. The view got better and the piste got faster. Under these great conditions, some athletes with high starting numbers were able to reach the front places. The downhill race was won by the Italian Christof Innerhofer with an advance of 0.12 seconds before Georg Streitberger and 0.16 before Klaus Kröll, both from Austria.
On Sunday, the clash of the giants between Ted Ligety and Marcel Hirscher continued at the giant slalom. Marcel Hirscher was debilitated due to the flu. In the first run, the natives Felix Neureuther and Fritz Dopfer dominated the race. The small intervals in the first run promised an exciting second run. But not all athletes were able to continue with the same efficiency as in the first run so that the ranking list was turned upside down. The young Frenchman Alexis Pinturault won the race with an advance of 0.60 seconds before Marcel Hirscher and 0.63 seconds before Ted Ligety. So the two superstars are on the podium again!
Congratulations to everyone!!
